Baselworld 2016 3 new officially certified chronometers
WorldTempus has selected three COSC-certified chronometers launched at Baselworld 2016 to profile.

According to the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), “A chronometer is a high-precision watch capable of displaying the seconds and housing a movement that has been tested over several days, in different positions and at different temperatures, by an official neutral body.” The COSC provides each chronometer it certifies with an individual certificate bearing the movement’s serial number. Here are three models we spotted at Baselworld that have been awarded the COSC’s guarantee of high precision.

Chopard – Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition
The Mille Miglia 2016 XL race Edition pays tribute to the “most beautiful race in the world”, of which Chopard is a partner, as well as its official timekeeper since 1988. This new reference, produced in a limited edition of 1000, draws inspiration from the cars that took part in the race between 1927 and 1940. The Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition is driven by a COSC-certified high-precision movement. Its 46 mm steel case encloses the Chopard 03.05-C calibre, a new mechanical self-winding column wheel chronograph movement which has been entirely designed, developed and assembled in Chopard’s workshops. It offers hour, minute, seconds and chronograph functions along with a date window, and has a 60-hour power reserve.

TAG Heuer – Carrera Heuer-02T
Six months ago TAG Heuer presented the Carrera Heuer-01, the first of a new collection of chronographs. The Swiss watchmakir has added to the range in time for Baselworld, presenting the Carrera Heuer-02T, a COSC-certified automatic chronograph with a titanium and carbon-fibre flying tourbillon. Priced at CHF 14,500, the Heuer-02T is the only Swiss made COSC-certified automatic chronograph with a tourbillon available for less than CHF 15,000. The main challenge was how to fit a single barrel, chronograph functions, a winding rotor and flying tourbillon into a 32 mm diameter, while keeping the counters well-spaced for a balanced look. The manufacture movement is housed in the latest generation grade 5 titanium case, which gives it lightness and shock resistance. A “Black Phantom” limited edition of 250 numbered pieces is also available at CHF 19,990.

Carl F. Bucherer – Patravi TravelTec Black
Carl F. Bucherer was bang on trend presenting a Patravi TravelTec with a black DLC treatment, since all-black watches were somewhat of a trend at Baselworld this year. The design is rounded off by a black dial which highlights the counters, hour markers and scales, all of which are in a lighter colour. This watch is the ideal travel companion, since it can display three different time zones simultaneously. Two are read on the dial thanks to the sophisticated functions of the in-house calibre CFB 1901.1, a COSC-certified chronometer, while the third is read using the rotating bezel, which has 24 red hour numerals.
