Writing shows characteristics and phenomenon of a language. It reflects history and character of a country. Georgian alphabet is one among 14 main writings existing in the world. It is one of the oldest, perfect alphabet systems. It consists of three historic types – Asomtavruli (Mrgvlovani), Nuskhuri (Khutsuri, angular) and Mkhedruli. Each of them has its characteristic graphic style. There are various opinions about origin of Georgian writing. According to XI century Georgian historian Leonti Mroveli Georgian alphabet was introduced by king of Georgia Parnavaz (IV-III centuries BC). When a language has writing, it becomes immortal. Georgians are the nation that has created own alphabet. Our writing is one of the perfect alphabet systems as each sound has corresponding letter. “Living culture of three writing systems of Georgian alphabet” inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016.
